Miami-Dade County To Decide On Restoring Workers’ Pay

Money

Miami-Dade commissioners will decide Thursday whether most county employees should continue to contribute 5 percent of their base pay toward group healthcare costs, as they have done for nearly four years.

The concession, which began during tight economic times, was scheduled to end Jan. 1, when the new federal healthcare law kicked in. But those law’s requirements for local government were delayed a year. Mayor Carlos Gimenez would like to extend the five-percent giveback for the same period of time, saying the county cannot yet afford restoring workers’ pay.
