MIAMI (AP) — Miami area activists joined in a national vigil to remember the homeless who died in 2013.

Last week’s vigil at government center was one of more than 150 planned around the country. The events were organized by the National Coalition for the Homeless and other nonprofits to bring attention to those whose lives often end anonymously.

According a report by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Florida is one of five states that account for more than half of the homeless population in the United States. The report also found Florida had the largest decrease in homeless since 2007 but did not provide an explanation for the change.
