Mayor Buckhorn Hosts Third Mayor’s River O’Green

Tampa, Fla. (February 24, 2014) – Mayor Bob Buckhorn will host the third annual Mayor’s River O’Green in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day on Saturday, March 15, 2014 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park.

“Bring your family, and enjoy the day in downtown Tampa. This will be a great, friendly event with lots to do and see,” said Mayor Bob Buckhorn. “As the Irish saying goes, ‘at the Mayor’s River O’Green whatever you do, the luck of the Irish will be there with you.’”

The City of Tampa in partnership with Grow Financial will dye the Hillsborough River kelly green between Cass Street Bridge and Kennedy Bridge. The dye is potable water grade, non-toxic, and biodegradable; it’s used primarily to trace leaks and in search and rescue efforts in large bodies of water.

In addition to a vibrant, bright green Hillsborough River, entertainment, food trucks and activities will all be on hand. Irish entertainment on the Krewe of Shamrock stage will feature Irish band Lucid Druids, Tampa Gymnastic and Dance Show Stars, and the Scariff Hardiman School of Irish Dance.

Fun and games are also available for all ages. In the special children’s area, Games, Inflatables, Arts & Crafts will be provided by the Tampa Parks and Recreation Department, Glazer Children’s Museum, Lowry Park Zoo, and more. Later, children at heart will be able to test their luck in the “Pot of Gold Pitch and Toss” (corn hole), Lucky Charms Eating contest, and audience favorite Irish Jig contest.

Any attendee who brings three non-perishable food items will receive a green “Saint Patrick’s Army” shirt provided by the Salvation Army. All donations will benefit the Salvation Army and provide support for those in need.

The Tampa Downtown Partnership will sell alcohol, including Sweetwater Brewing, Guinness, and Cigar City, and proceeds from all alcohol sales will benefit Realm, the Downtown Partnership’s nonprofit, to program downtown parks.

The event, including the entertainment and activities, are free and open to the public; however, that does not include vendor items.
