Manatee Couple Won’t be Charged for Marijuana

PARRISH, Fla. (AP) _ Manatee County prosecutors have declined to press charges against a 64-year-old man who cultivated marijuana plants to treat his wife’s illness.

Robert Jordan’s home was raided by law enforcement in February, after receiving a tip that there were two marijuana plants growing in their back yard.

Jordan’s wife, 62-year-old Cathy, has used marijuana for years to control the symptoms of Lou Gehrig’s disease.

The Herald-Tribune (http://bit.ly/XW0aVY) reports that the State Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday that it believes a medical necessity defense would hold up in court.

The couple has also asked state lawmakers in Tallahassee to pass a medical marijuana law.
