Man Who Killed, Raped Woman Set To Be Executed

Crime_Scene_2013ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Florida is scheduled to execute a man convicted of raping and murdering a young aspiring artist in her Orlando apartment 22 years ago.

Darius Kimbrough is set to die Tuesday at Florida State Prison in Starke. The 40-year-old Kimbrough was convicted of breaking into 28-year-old Denise Collins’ apartment, raping her and beating her to death.

Kimbrough was convicted through an eyewitness account placing him at the apartment complex and through DNA testing.

His attorneys have filed appeals, saying the eyewitness was elderly and had memory lapses and that the DNA testing was faulty. They also say his trial attorneys were not allowed to present evidence that her ex-boyfriend may have killed her.
