EVERGLADES CITY, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a man died after running out of a Collier County Sheriff’s substation and into the path of a pickup truck.
The Florida Highway Patrol says 20-year-old Samuel Mendoza Carrillo died at the scene along U.S. 41 in Everglades City late Sunday. The truck was driven by 23-year-old Christopher Taylor of Riverview.
Troopers say they don’t know why the man ran from the sheriff’s office. They say the truck driver was not injured in the crash.
The highway was closed for almost three hours.
