Man Found Not Guilty of Abusing Son Locked In Box

GALVESTON, Texas — A Texas jury has found a man not guilty of abusing his 11-year-old son by locking him in a wooden box.

Galveston County jurors on Thursday found the man not guilty of injury to a child and unlawful restraint of a child.

The boy had testified that he was allowed out of the box for school, meals and to use the bathroom at the home in Galveston, 50 miles southeast of Houston.

The Galveston County Daily News reports that the father’s lawyers argued he was forced to lock the child in the 8-by-6-foot particleboard box to control his erratic behavior brought on by mood and behavioral disorders.

The Associated Press isn’t naming the father to protect the child’s identity.

The boy now lives with his mother in Wisconsin.
