Man Confesses to Winter Haven Shootings

Winter Haven Police Chief Gary Hester confirmed that the victims of a triple shooting Tuesday night were three Polk State College students.

The students killed were Christian Rodriguez and Joe Santos Palacios, both 19 of Haines City, and the third victim, Estaban Zavala, 20, was wounded and currently hospitalized at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.

According to detectives, Joshua Davis, 32, confessed to the shooting.

The three friends were at the Davis apartment on Lake Howard Drive.

Chief Hester explained that all four men at some point worked at McDonald’s together but that Davis is not a student at Polk State.

When asked why he pulled the trigger, police said Davis told them it was because he “got a dark feeling.”

Officials also said that Davis’ 6-year-old daughter was in the residence at the time and saw the killings.

Davis has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder; one count of attempted first-degree murder; and one count of child abuse.
