Man Arrested In Multiple Smash-Grab Robberies

Clearwater Police have arrested a 49-year-old man in connection with a string of smash-and-grab burglaries that targeted clothing stores.

Alvin Darryl Moaning faces multiple counts of burglary and grand theft in connection with the crimes that occurred along the Gulf-to-Bay corridor.

Moaning would use concrete or other item to smash the glass of the business, then he would get inside and steal clothing. He told detectives he then would sell the clothing to feed a drug habit and support family members.

Here is a look at the crimes connected to Moaning:

Jan. 9: Ariel’s Tropic Fashions, 1625 Gulf-to-Bay Blvd. Seventy pairs of jeans were stolen after a large chunk of concrete was thrown through the window.

Nov. 9-10, 2014: Ariel’s Tropic Fashions, 1625 Gulf-to-Bay Blvd. Forty pairs of pants and 50 shirts were taken after a large rock was used to smash the glass of the front door.

Oct. 28, 2014: Design Furniture Outlet & Consignment, 1928 Gulf-to-Bay Blvd. Unknown clothing items taken after a front bay window and the glass door were smashed.

Sept. 6-7, 2-14: Design Furniture Outlet & Consignment, 1928 Gulf-to-Bay Blvd. Numerous pairs of jeans were stolen after the front glass doors were smashed.

Moaning is being held in the Pinellas County Jail.
