Man Accused Of Impersonating Police

A man has been arrested and accused of impersonating a police officer.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office says at 3:00 a.m. Monday, 37-year-old Roger Hastings approached 32-year-old Kristin Nelson of Gibsonton in the parking lot of a Cheveron gas station at 10920 Highway 41 South in Gibsonton.

He escorted her inside the store, continuously stating he was the police and she was going to jail. Once inside, he stood in the doorway and once Nelson tried to leave, he refused to let her go, holding her against her will.

Hastings had his right hand inside the front pocket of his jacket while advising Nelson she was not allowed to leave the store and that he was a police officer.

The clerk called 9-1-1 and deputies arrived while Hastings was still at the gas station. He was identified by Nelson and witnesses as the person who committed the offense. He was found to have a black and silver hatchet inside the front pocket of his jacket.

Police say he repeatedly told them “I did tell her I was the police.”

He is charged with false imprisonment, carrying a concealed weapon and falsely impersonating an officer during commission of a felony.
