Longboat Key Police Chief Killed

LONGBOAT KEY, Fla. (AP) _ Officials in Longboat Key say Police Chief Al Hogle was killed when his motorcycle crashed while he was vacationing in North Carolina. He was 63.

Longboat Key Fire Chief Paul Dezzi told the Bradenton Herald (http://bit.ly/KqwMmO ) that Hogle was on an outing with about a half dozen police friends when his motorcycle went off the road and crashed about 1 p.m. Monday.

Further details about the crash were not immediately available.

Hogle was police chief in Bradenton for a year before accepting the same position in Longboat Key.

Colleagues say Hogle spent much of his life in public service.

He spent nearly three decades with the Sarasota Police Department, where he retired as a captain.

He also served on the Sarasota City Commission. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
