A group of 17 attorneys has filed a lawsuit against the city of Tampa and the company that runs its red light camera program.
The lawsuit says it is illegal for American Traffic Solutions employees to decide if an infraction has occurred and then to issue tickets.
The suit says that’s the sole authority of police and city government.
The lawsuit seeks to have all red light camera tickets issued in Tampa since 2011 scrubbed from drivers’ records, and $11 million in fines refunded.
The city says it will defend the program in court.
