Lawmakers Hear Plea For Release Of Former Marine Held Prisoner In Iran

His name first came up after word that he was reportedly taunted by his Iranian prison guards after President Obama failed to mention his name while calling for the release of an American journalist also being held in Iran.

Marine veteran Amir Hekmati has been held in a Tehran prison for nearly four years, and on Thursday his family came to Washington to meet with lawmakers and White House aides to urge them to push for his release. President Obama has never mentioned Hekmati’s name, and it is not known what is actually happening behind the scenes.

Nonetheless, Montel Williams joined the family and made a highly impassioned appeal for assistance.
