Two men were arrested Tuesday after they were caught breaking into an officer’s home in Lakeland.
According to investigators, off-duty officer, 24-year-old Preston Chatman, came home to his apartment around 11:30 a.m. and found Anthony Santiago, 18, and Nelson Ivan Rodriguez, 33, inside.
Chatman ordered them to freeze, but they charged him instead. Chatman opened fire and hit Santiago in the leg. Both men fled, but were quickly captured.
Santiago was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center with a non-life threatening injury and was later released into police custody.
Rodriguez was taken to the Lakeland Police Department.
Charges are pending in the incident.
