UPDATE: U.S. 27 now open as of 10:30 a.m.
Lake Wales, FL -Polk County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a major accident on U.S. 27.
It appears that a semi tractor-trailer traveling northbound crossed over into the southbound lanes and struck and killed motorcyclist.
Hitting the motorcyclist caused a chain reaction and eight more vehicles collided into each other, with at least one more confirmed fatality.
Will all they debris and on going investigation, police have shut down both northbound and southbound lanes of U.S. 27 and it will be for several hours.
Travelers should use alternate routes like U.S. 17-Alternate (Scenic Hwy).
