Commuters who use Kennedy Boulevard between Dale Mabry Hwy and Hale Avenue had to find an alternate route following a major accident.
The road was shut down after an 18 wheeler attempted to make a wide u-turn but failed to see a police unit while driving on the wet road.
The two vehicles collided, the truck’s tank was ruptured and spilled diesel fuel into the road. The trailer continued on, and blocked six to seven lanes of Kennedy Boulevard.
Tampa Police Lt. Richard O’Connor, a DUI enforcement officer, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Memorial Hospital.
The truck driver is okay.
