Jupiter: Heavy Rains Bring Flooding

CarJUPITER, Fla. (AP) — Heavy rains have left two people dead and widespread flooding along part of the state’s Atlantic coast.

The National Weather Service says the Boynton Beach area received 22.21 inches of rain Thursday, sometimes at a rate of 5 inches an hour. Other areas in St. Lucie, Martin and Palm Beach counties also received a foot of rain or more.

South Florida Water Management District officials said Friday that the overnight rains fell at an “incredible rate.”

Martin County Fire Rescue officials say a possible tornado damaged 30 Hobe Sound homes. No injuries were reported.

A Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman tells The Palm Beach Post (http://bit.ly/KPtpKc ) that two people died in the overnight flooding in Delray Beach. She says one of the victims was pulled from a submerged car.
