Jumping Sturgeon Injures Two In Suwannee River

BRANFORD, Fla. (AP) _ Two people are recovering after being injured when a sturgeon leaped into the path of their boat on the Suwannee River in north Florida.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesman Greg Workman The boat was carrying three children and two adults on Monday when the silvery fish crashed into the boat.

The Gainesville Sun reports the children weren’t hurt, but a man was flown by medical helicopter to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville.

The woman on the boat was taken to Shands in an ambulance.

Their identities haven’t been released.

On July 3, a 5-year-old girl died a day after being hit by a leaping sturgeon while boating on the Suwannee River.

Sturgeon can grow up to 6 feet long and weigh about 200 pounds.
