Jeff Atwater Elected To Another Term As Florida CFO

According to the Associated Press, Republican incumbent Jeff Atwater has been elected to another term as Florida’s chief financial officer, easily beating his opponent, Democrat William Rankin.

With more than half the expected vote counted, Atwater held a 58 to 42 percent margin.

The 56-year-old Atwater outspent his opponent handily, raising about $4 million to Rankin’s $37,000. The state’s CFO is a member of the Cabinet along with the governor, attorney general and agriculture commissioner.

Atwater also oversees a 2,600-employee agency that includes the state’s insurance department and treasury and manages a $21.4 billion financial portfolio.
