Good news, bad news on Tropical Storm Erika.
The Bad News: Erika is tracking to make a direct hit on Florida by Monday at 2 am, making land in South Florida and traveling north.
The Good News: The storm will not evolve into a hurricane.
Next 48 Hours: The storm picked up a little more speed and continues to move west-northwest at 17 mph. Over the next 24 hours, the storm’s center will move over the Dominican Republic today, Turks and Caicos tonight and near central and northwestern Bahamas over the weekend.
Wind Speed: Maximum 50 mph
Hazards: Heavy, heavy rain. NOAA expects Erika to dump 4-8 inches with maximum amounts potentially as high as 12 inches across the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic/Haiti, Turks and Caicos and parts of the Bahamas. Since this area received heavy rainfall from Danny, over-saturated ground can produce flooding and mud slides.
