(UPDATED 3:30 p.m.) The pilot killed in the crash has been identified as 56 year old Gary Cohen of Odessa. Witnesses say they heard the engine of his plane sputtering just before impact.
SPRING HILL, Fla. (AP) _ One person is dead after a small plane crashed into a backyard a short distance from the Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport.
The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened Friday morning as the Cessna amphibian floatplane was flying from Odessa to Orlando. The pilot was in touch with the airport before the crash.
Officials say no one on the ground was injured, though several nearby homes were evacuated for a brief time.
The name of the pilot has not been released.
No further details were immediately available.
