RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. (AP) – Florida Power & Light says a manatee viewing center at its Riviera Beach power plant should be finished by February.
The Palm Beach Post reports that Manatee Lagoon moved one step closer to completion Wednesday as the cupola of the Old Florida-style viewing center was hoisted to its roof.
The 16,000-square-foot $4.8 million facility will be free to visitors. Manatees have gathered for years in the warm-water outflow from the plant on cold days. The center will have viewing areas on the first and second floors.
After opening for a few months in early 2016, the center will shut down until November 2016, when it will start remaining open year-round.
