Hillsborough County Sheriff Deputies were involved in a fatal shooting last night. At about 10:45 pm, officers were notified that a man was outside his apartment at 14889 Swallow Tail Ct yelling and screaming while waving a gun.
Multiple deputies instructed Jeffery Casale to drop his weapon numerous times via a patrol vehicle PA system. One of the deputies is a seasoned Crisis Intervention Deputy who tried to verbally calm Casale and attempt to establish a verbal dialogue to deescalate the situation.
Casale remained extremely agitated and rapidly advanced upon the 4 deputies while pointing his firearms at them. At this point, the deputies feared for their lives and were forced to open fire hitting Casale in the upper body. Casale was transported to a local hospital where he died.
The deputies who were involved in the shooting will be placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. I will release the deputies names later this morning.
