Bar Fight Turns Into Manslaughter Charges

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Police say a St. Petersburg man who punched another man outside a bar has been charged in the victim’s death.

Multiple media outlets report the Pinellas County State Attorney’s Office amended 39-year-old Bobby Ryan’s charge to manslaughter Tuesday. Ryan was initially charged with felony battery following the Feb. 10 incident.

St. Petersburg police say Ryan and 53-year-old Christopher Motlenski were at Angelo’s Grill and Bar in downtown St. Petersburg when they began arguing.

The argument made its way outside of the bar, where police say Ryan punched Motlenski in the head. Motlenski fell, striking his head on the pavement, knocking him unconscious.

Motlenski was transported to a hospital. He died March 7. The medical examiner’s office ruled his death a homicide.

It isn’t immediately clear if Ryan has an attorney.
