Israel airstrikes Syria

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The White House isn’t commenting directly on Israel’s latest airstrikes in Syria. But a spokesman says Israel is “justifiably concerned about the threat posed by Hezbollah’s obtaining of advanced weapons systems.” A senior Israeli official says the two attacks over 48 hours targeted a shipment of precision-guided missiles believed to be headed for the militant group.

BEIRUT (AP) — Israel is beefing up its rocket defenses on its northern border to protect the country against possible retaliation after carrying out two airstrikes in Syria over 48 hours. A senior Israeli official says the recent airstrikes targeted precision-guided missiles Israel believes were being shipped to Hezbollah militants in Lebanon.

CAIRO (AP) — The head of the Arab League is blasting Israel for carrying out airstrikes on Syria. Nabil Elaraby says the attacks threaten regional stability and is calling on the U.N. Security Council to “immediately move to stop” what he calls “Israeli aggressions.” While he opposes Israel’s actions, Elaraby is appealing for aid to strengthen the rebels trying to oust Syrian President Bashar Assad.
