Lake Hamilton leaders are taking action after a Polk County State Attorney report that basically says the force is incompetent.
A consultant will be called in to help retrain officers on how to investigate crimes and handle evidence.
Meantime, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office will be asked to investigate major crimes in city limits while local officers continue to patrol the streets.
A move to dismantle the police force and contract with the sheriff’s office for all law enforcement services was roundly rejected by residents.
A final decision comes in a few weeks.
