I-75 Closes After Fatal Crash Involving Semi

Earlier this morning around 2:30 AM, an ABC Liquors tractor trailer and BMW were traveling southbound on I-75.

While approaching the Alafia River Bridge, the two vehicles collided due to low visability. The BMW traveled off the inside shoulder of the bridge and into the Alafia River.

The tractor trailer, driven by 30-year-old Wayne Damari Waldon, overturned onto the southbound travel lanes of I-75. The driver of the BMW, 42-year-old James Dylan Proctor, died as a result of injuries, while the driver of the tractor trailer was transported to Tampa General Hospital with minor injuries. A large portion of the 30,000 gallons of various types of alcoholic beverages spilled onto the highway.

Crews are working to clear the tractor trailer and its contents from the highway as all southbound traffic is currently being diverted off I-75 onto SR-60.

Update: 9:08 AM The highway has been reopened.
