House Gives ‘Go-Ahead’ for Syrian Rebel Training

House authorizes Syrian Rebel training

On Wednesday, the House voted to authorize a mission to arm and train rebels fighting in Syria. The measure, which now heads to the Senate in a broader spending bill, gives President Obama the go-ahead to combat the terrorist group ISIL (also known as ISIS) by training and arming Syrian rebels.

The Obama Administration will have to keep Congress fully apprised of its implementation of the Syrian rebel training and the equipment used, while ensuring Syrian rebels are properly vetted. Meanwhile, after a meeting with top military planners, President Obama doubled down on his position that there would be no ground war and no boots on the ground.
