Hernando Deputy Fired For Misconduct

Al Nienhuis

SPRING HILL, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a Hernando County Sheriff’s deputy has been fired for misconduct.

Sheriff Al Nienhuis fired 45-year-old patrol Deputy William Charles Martinez on Monday. He’s charged with false imprisonment and battery.

According to the sheriff’s office, Martinez responded to a single-vehicle crash on Jan. 23. After the Florida Highway Patrol completed its investigation, Martinez drove the driver home. She went to the sheriff’s office the next day and said Martinez had acted inappropriately during the ride home.

Officials say the woman provided physical evidence that was submitted to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for review. According to the sheriff, the results came back Monday. Martinez denied the claims.

He was fired for immoral conduct and inability to give truthful testimony. It was not clear whether he’s obtained an attorney.
