GOP To Unveil First Budget In 10 Years

The divisions between fiscal hawks and defense hawks will be laid bare on Tuesday, as congressional leaders unveil the blueprint for the first Republican budget in ten years. Fiscal hawks are determined to maintain strict spending caps, while defense hawks are threatening to derail any budget that does not ensure an increase for the military.

The struggle over the next three weeks to pass the budget plans represents the most serious test of whether Republican leaders meet their pledge to govern effectively in the majority. Unlike legislation, the spending plan only requires a majority vote in both the House and Senate. It can’t be blocked by a filibuster and is not subject to presidential approval or veto.
