The singing sensation that is Glee is set to end when its next season – series six – finishes. The show’s creator Ryan Murphy confirmed the news that the Fox musical will not be renewed.

He added that he had planned the series finale to centre on Rachel and Finn’s on-off relationship – but things had to take a drastic change following the death of lead Cory Monteith.

“The final year of the show, which will be next year, was designed around Rachel and Cory/Finn’s story,” he said. “I always knew that, I always knew how it would end. I knew what the last shot was – he was in it. I knew what the last line was – she said it to him,” said Ryan at a Paley Centre event.

“So when a tragedy like that happens you sort of have to pause and figure out what you want to do, so we’re figuring that out now.”

The show, which is currently in the middle of season five, is on a hiatus in the US following the airing of last week’s tribute episode to Cory Monteith.
