USF president Judy Genshaft thanked Tampa Bay in a 10 News press conference Monday, directly after she met with State Senator JD Alexander.
Genshaft and Alexander met in Tallahassee to talk about the proposal to slash the school’s state funding.
Genshaft has been very concerned over the potential $103 million that Alexander wants to cut from the university.
Now, it appears, committee chairman Alexander, R-Lake Wales, may be willing to downsize the cut.
Alexander has been pressing to make the USF Polytechnic campus in Lakeland an independent state university.
Genshaft says, she’s open to that.
Both plan to meet again soon.
