STROUDSBURG, Pa. (AP) — A fraternity has revoked its affiliation with a New York City college chapter following the death of a student during what authorities in northeastern Pennsylvania say was a fraternity ritual.

Pi Delta Psi says the chapter at Baruch (bah-REWK’) College “violated the values and rules of our organization, including our strict no hazing policy” in what it called “unsanctioned and prohibited events.”

Monroe County District Attorney David Christine says he plans criminal charges following an investigation into the Dec. 8 death of 19-year-old freshman Chun “Michael” Deng. Deng died after spending the weekend with about 30 Pi Delta Psi members at a rented house in the Poconos.

Christine alleges that Deng, one of four pledges, sustained a fatal brain injury after running a gauntlet blindfolded and with a heavy weight on his back.
