Witness Used Wrench to Kill Mother of FL Hotel Heir

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) _ A cooperating witness says he used a plumber’s wrench to bash the head and face of the 86-year-old mother of a Florida hotel heir.

The witness testified Wednesday that his instructions came from Ben Novack Jr.’s wife, Narcy Novack, and her brother, Cristobal Veliz.

They are charged with orchestrating the 2009 killings of both Ben Novack and his mother, Bernice Novack.

The witness, Alejandro Garcia, identified a heavy 14-inch wrench as being similar to the one he used on Bernice Novack at her Fort Lauderdale home.

He demonstrated the attack by raising his arm on the witness stand and swiftly bringing it down.

Garcia also testified that he was recruited to attack Ben Novack three months later in New York.

His detailed testimony about that attack is expected Thursday.
