Plane Crash Lands at Key West Airport

KEY WEST, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say no injuries were reported when a small plane crash landed at Key West Airport.

Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies say the twin engine Cessna Citation left Fort Lauderdale Thursday afternoon. The plane’s brakes failed when they tried to land in Key West.

Officials say the pilot was 55-year-old Jose Tomas Batista of Hollywood. The co-pilot was 43-year-old Federico Andres Machado of Fort Lauderdale. The passengers were Paula Carriero of Fort Lauderdale, Fred Davis of Toms River, N. J. and William Daughenbaugh of Linville, N. J.

It was the second crash at the airport this week. On Monday, a plane carrying NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick ran off the runway. Hendrick broke a rib and shoulder and his wife had minor cuts and bruises. The two pilots were not injured.
