FL Ponzi Lawyer: Partners Involved In Scam

MIAMI (AP) — The former Florida lawyer convicted of running a $1.2 billion Ponzi scheme is claiming both partners at his defunct Fort Lauderdale law firm knew about the illegal activity.

Scott Rothstein’s partners were Russell Adler and Stuart Rosenfeldt. In a sworn testimony transcript released Wednesday, Rothstein says both men knew about and benefited from the Ponzi scam. It involved investments in fake legal settlements.

Adler did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment. Rosenfeldt’s attorney denies he had knowledge about the scheme and says Rothstein can’t be trusted.

Rothstein is serving a 50-year prison sentence. In the transcript, he says he is telling the complete truth in hopes of getting a reduction in his prison sentence.

Prosecutors have said more people are likely to be indicted in the case.
