FL Deputy And Paralyzed Man Face Off In Court

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) _ A sheriff’s deputy and the unarmed black man he shot and paralyzed are both expected to be cross-examined in a federal civil rights lawsuit.

Two interruptions due to 22-year-old Dontrell Stephens’ chronic pain have delayed the completion of his cross-examination until Monday.

Meanwhile, Palm Beach County Deputy Adams Lin has testified that Stephens flashed a dark object at him with his left hand before the shooting in September 2013.

Lin is expected to finish his testimony Monday morning before Stephens finishes his cross-examination in the afternoon.

Lin, an Asian-American, shot Stephens after stopping him for riding his bicycle into traffic.

A dashboard camera in Lin’s car shows Stephens had his cellphone in his right hand, but his left hand was empty.
