FL Art Dealer Busted For Counterfeiting

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) _ A South Florida artist has pleaded guilty to making about $4.7 million worth of counterfeit bills.

The South Florida Sun Sentinel reports that 41-year-old Jean Losier pleaded guilty in Fort Lauderdale federal court Thursday to making counterfeit currency.

He faces up to 20 years in prison at his January sentencing.

He is already serving a 5-year sentence for a related crime.

The U.S. Secret Service reports that Losier put the fake $50 and $100 bills into circulation as part of a sophisticated counterfeiting operation that ran from 2008 to 2014.

Most of the fake money was traded in Florida, but about $1 million went to other parts of the U.S. and foreign countries.

Before his arrest, Losier ran an art studio in Delray Beach.
