Coast Guard Continues Search For Plane Crash Victims

plane_crashDANIA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Coast Guard officials say search and rescue efforts continue for two people who were aboard a jet en route to Mexico that plunged into the Atlantic Ocean off Florida.

Two people have been confirmed dead. The Coast Guard said early Wednesday that crews were searching for two other people who had been on board the Learjet 35.

The jet plunged into the water about a mile offshore shortly after taking off Tuesday night from a private terminal at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

Airport spokesman Greg Meyer says the jet was carrying two pilots, a doctor and a nurse who were returning to Cozumel, Mexico, after dropping off a patient in Fort Lauderdale. Additional details about their flight were not immediately available.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
