A 14-year-old boy to be charged as an adult.

POMPANO BEACH, Fla.- A 14-year-old boy is being charged as an adult after breaking into a home with a gun and pointing it at the occupants.

The boy, Marvin Ruiz, was attempting to the rob the home said deputies. Ruiz was armed when he entered a home on Northwest 33rd Street in Pompano Beach. According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Ruiz entered the home by breaking a glass window.

The arrest report says when Ruiz got inside he began pointing the gun at the victims inside the house and ordered them to get on the ground. Once the victims were on the ground Ruiz let in Diago Jaimes, 18, never pointing the gun away from the victims.

Jaimes then took the gun from Ruiz pointing it towards the male victim and telling him to show Jaimes where the money and jewelry were kept, said the report.

The report states Jaimes then took $700 in cash, jewelry and other personal items from the victims in the home.

Ruiz and Jaimes then ordered the victims to stay on the ground and fled from the home on foot. It is reported that the pair were joined by a third man, Luis Cruz, at this point.

Jaimes was captured shortly after and was identified by the victims. Ruiz was found hiding in a wooded area and was also identified by the victims, said one of the deputies.

According to Assistant Public Defenser Rachel Newman, Ruis is one of eight children that live with their mother and stepfather in a mobile home. Charging Ruiz as an adult was “unconscionable” because another adult was involved in the case.

Jaimes and Ruiz were both charged with armed home invasion; armed burglary of a dwelling and two counts of armed false imprisonment.

Jamies is being held without bond and Ruiz had a $70,000 bond if released before trial, will be under house arrest according to a judge on Tuesday.
