Flu Virus: Mutation Results In Less Effective Vaccination, Deaths

This National Influenza Vaccination Week comes even as the incidence of the flu is on the rise. Three states — Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi — lead the nation in new cases of the illness, based on pharmacy sales of antiviral medications.

In a troubling twist, health officials say the vaccination you received in October might have lost it effectiveness as the original strain of flu virus has mutated. In Dallas/Fort Worth, at least three people have died of the flu in the current outbreak.

ABC’s Jim Ryan is there.
