Florida’s Lobster Mini-Season is Here

MIAMI (AP) _ Florida’s lobster mini-season is here.

Fire rescue officials and wildlife officers will be on high alert Wednesday and Thursday, patrolling waterways as hundreds of boaters are expected to take part in the coastal tradition.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says the mini-season allows for recreational fishermen to collect the spiny crustaceans before commercial lobster traps are placed in the water.

Divers and snorkelers can take up to six lobsters per person daily in Monroe County and Biscayne National Park waters and 12 lobsters per person daily in other Florida waters.

Bag limits are strictly enforced on and off the water.

The regular lobster seasons runs Aug. 6 through March.
