USF Student Diagnosed with TB

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ A University of South Florida student has been diagnosed with tuberculosis and it’s the second case this year at the school.

The Hillsborough County Health Department said Tuesday that the student is being treated and recovering in isolation.

About 30 other students, faculty, staff and people in the community may have been exposed to the student. They’ve been notified, and the health department plans to begin testing them next week.

The earlier case was in February and doesn’t appear to be related to the recent case.

TB usually infects the lungs. People who are infected spread the disease when they expel TB germs into the air by coughing, talking or sneezing.
