Two Die in Ultralight Plane Crashes

Yesterday, just three hours and 12 miles apart two pilots flying their single-seat ultralight planes, took off and crashed.

The first man, 53-year-old William George Athey of Odessa was practicing a series of short takeoff and landings when it snagged some power lines along state road 52.

Then around 11:30, 50-year-old Christopher Ambrose Washington took off from the Hernando County Airport when his plane appeared to stall.

It spiraled downward and burst into flames.

Both died at the scene.
