Teen Police Shooter To Be Resentenced

Lindsay_Resentence_2013LARGO, Fla. (AP) — Some two dozen police officers are attending the resentencing hearing of a St. Petersburg teenager who killed a police officer.

St. Petersburg Chief Chuck Harmon told the Tampa Bay Times he wanted to show support and see that Lindsey gets the right sentence for the fatal shooting of Officer David S. Crawford on Feb. 21, 2011. Officers from several agencies joined him in the Largo courtroom on Monday morning.

Lindsey was convicted last year of shooting Crawford five times. Earlier this summer a Pinellas-Pasco Circuit Court granted a motion allowing Lindsey to be resentenced. He was 16 at the time of the shooting.

After his sentencing, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that automatic life-without-parole sentences for juveniles are unconstitutional. The court says other factors must also be considered.
