Tampa Man Arrested After Firing Into Crowd

An escalating fight culminated with a man firing into a crowd Saturday night, authorities said.

Byron G. Showers III, 20, of Tampa got into an argument around 10 p.m. at 1505 130th Ave. E, which is west of the James A. Haley VA Medical Center, an arrest affidavit shows. The argument turned into a fist fight.

After the fight, Showers armed himself with a handgun and recognized someone in a crowd. He fired into the crowd, striking more than one victim, the affidavit shows. It did not name the victims or detail their injuries.

Showers fled in a Pontiac Grand Am, the affidavit said, but deputies located it a few blocks away. He was arrested and faces two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He posted $4,000 bail and was released from Hillsborough County Jail.

The affidavit lists Showers as a member of the Drak Boys gang.
