TAMPA — The Tampa area is on track to be the fastest-growing region in Florida this year, according to an report released this week by the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
The report projects the Tampa metropolitan area – Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco and Hernando counties – to grow 3.2 percent this year, making it the 16th fastest-growing metro area in the country.
“U.S. metropolitan areas are the engines of domestic output and titans of the global economy,” the report said.
The Tampa region’s rate of economic growth has more than doubled since 2011 as the region continues to recover from the Great Recession.
