During a workshop on Thursday, the Tampa City Council voted 6 to 1 in favor of amending an ordiance to make it easier for residents to keep chickens in their backyards.
However, there are rules and parameters, like having a 200-foot gap between coops and neighbors, and no roosters.
Updates to the code would go into effect in January.
Last year, Pinellas County legalized backyard chickens in unincorporated areas.
