Suspect Shot During North Florida Drug Bust

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Police say a suspect was shot in the leg after a drug bust turned violent in Jacksonville.

The shooting happened around 8 p.m. Thursday as undercover officers purchased drugs from a man in a car outside a Jacksonville gas station.

The Florida Times-Union (http://bit.ly/zf07jU ) reports the drug dealer fled when officers identified themselves.

Police Chief Tom Hackney says officers heard shots after the man ran behind an animal hospital. Officers returned fire, hitting the suspect. He was taken to Shands Jacksonville hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities say no officers were injured. Hackney didn’t know how many shots were fired by officers.

The suspect’s name has not been released.
