St Pete Woman Arrested For Killing Great Dane

Police on Sunday night arrested a St. Petersburg woman they say abandoned a Great Dane, which died after being left alone for 11 days.

Alyssa Anderson, 24, faces one count of felony animal cruelty. Her bail was set at $5,000.

Anderson had been staying at 3520 71st St. N. in St. Petersburg, where a Great Dane named Diesel was found dead Sunday, said St. Petersburg police spokesman Mike Puetz. A neighbor discovered the dog after smelling a foul odor coming from the house, Puetz said.

Police officers found the door unlocked, went inside and found the dog, which had been dead for at least a week and was decomposing, said Puetz.
